Cutting Board Care and Maintenance
CARING FOR YOUR CUTTING BOARD
Your new cutting board will come seasoned with 3 coats of Howard’s food grade mineral oil and 3 coats of Howard’s food grade conditioner. After time your board will require some maintenance to stay in nice condition. Here are some tips for maintaining your cutting board.Cleaning your cutting board after each use and not letting food or liquids sit for a long period of time will keep your board stain free. Use a sponge or cloth and a small amount of dish soap to scrub your board under warm running water to remove any food particles. (DO NOT SUBMERGE YOUR CUTTING BOARD IN WATER AND DO NOT PLACE IN DISHWASHER). Dry completely with a towel and place the board standing on its edge so all sides air dry evenly (doing so will prevent the board from warping)Your cutting board can be sanitized by using a water and white vinegar mix. You can also add a drop or 2 of lemon juice to the mixture to help with odor. After cleaning and drying lightly spritz your cutting board with the water/vinegar mixture and let set for 30 to 60 seconds. Dry the cutting board with a clean cloth and let air dry.Once every few months or when your board loses its shine, use food grade mineral oil or conditioner and a cloth to coat your cutting board completely. Let stand for 20 minutes then wipe off any excess oil with a dry cloth. Under heavy use reconditioning may be needed more often.THINGS TO AVOID
• Do not submerge your cutting board in water.
• Do not place your cutting board in the dishwasher.
• Do not allow food particles or juices to stand on the cutting board for
any length of time.
• Do not apply wood stains, urethanes, or any other type of finish that is
not food safe.
• Avoid dropping your cutting board.
• Avoid using other vinegars beside white vinegar to disinfect your board.
Other vinegars will leave more of an odor after time.
• Avoid storing your cutting board flat (storing on edge prevents warping) .
